My name is Kurt Johnson and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am 57 years old. I have no formal photographic training and am self-taught. Any skills with a camera I have developed on my own. I got my photographic start in the U.S. Navy in the 1980's. On my final ship, the U.S.S. Halyburton, FFG-40, I became the ship's Public Affairs Officer and Ship's Photographer which is where my photographic work began to be published in public forums(local newspapers and on-base media). After I left the Navy in 1991, I didn't shoot again until 2003 when I started photographing and writing for several local entertainment newspapers. This included covering bands, events, festivals, Karaoke and other entertainment. I then became the Staff Photographer Pacific Northwest for Delta Groove Productions, an independent blues label located in Los Angeles until 2014. Up until 2015, I yearly shot at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival. I also continue to shoot at the Bite of Oregon food and wine festival for The Oregon Special Olympics. I continue to shoot with professional models that are in the Portland area. I have retired from photography on a commercial basis and now only shoot as a contributor. I found DMNDR on a Craigslist ad and responded. I feel fortunate to be a part of DMNDR as I see it as an avenue to access venues that I never had a chance to shoot at in the past and also new and up and coming bands. I also look forward to continuing photographing bands, events and shows and contributing to the DMNDR forum. Please enjoy the images I produce and that are posted on DMNDR. I hope the exposure on DMNDR can be of some use to the bands and entertainers that I photograph.
