Fall came out of nowhere in Austin on Friday. And one thing I’ve learned about Texans is that any temperature under 70 is cold, but coming from New Hampshire, it’s still considered shorts weather. This didn’t stop die hard fans of Grouplove at Stubbs Saturday night, oh no. Even with the crisp cool air of the night, bundled up fans were awaiting for them to take stage.

Mona opened up for Grouplove that night and they were a sight to be seen. This all girl band totally rocked the stage. Imagine an all girl version of Smashing Pumpkins, which isn’t very hard considering Billy Corgan has a feminine sound. But oh boy, did these ladies fuckin rock. Slowly gaining notoriety in the music field, I can see why Grouplove chose them as an opener for their shows. Their pop rock sound, with a live presence on stage made them perfect for what was about to come on stage.

With two nights back to back playing at Stubbs in Austin Tx, Grouplove took the stage for their last show of their tour. I couldn’t tell if they were so lively on stage because it was their last gig for a few weeks, or if they were just stoked to see such a large crowd on their second night. Though both nights weren’t sold out, as I frequent Stubbs often, I could tell they were damn close to being at capacity.

Starting their fame in Los Angeles, by lead singers Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi back in 2009/2010, this band has gone places and quickly! With numerous hits on the charts around the globe, songs in many movies, shows, commercials, games and more, there isn’t much these guys haven’t done. Their newest album “Big Mess” which was released in September 2016 peaked on various charts like Rock, Alt Rock and more across the globe. This is one of those bands that play a show like a classic punk band but with a Fuck-You Pop Rock sound that I have a hard time comparing to other artists. Of course they covered all their chart hit songs like “Colours”, “Tongue Tied”, and their latest “Welcome to Your Life”, which just made the crowd bat shit. They even covered Beastie Boys which I thought was just fucking awesome.

If Muna tours again with Grouplove, it’d be worth going the show just to see them. I can’t imagine where they’ll be in within a few months to a year. It was awesome seeing an all female group rock a house packed full of fans. What can I say about Grouplove? I mean, just go see them. Don’t question about whether you should go or not, just fucking go. They will rock your world, but without the worry of a mosh pit opening up. Have you seen a pop rock singer stage dive into a crowd without the fear of being pummeled by a mosh pit? Both of these artists are going places, I’m sure Muna will continue to grow their success, and Grouplove can’t fuck up from here. Fans will continue to be die hard fans no matter what they produce, I know I will still buy their next album.
