About 2 years ago I was fortunate to photograph Thrice at Emos in Austin, and here I am the day I start my new job photographing them again. This isn’t some sappy nostalgic shit, this band is in my top 3. Not mention they just dropped an album last week called “Palms”.
To be honest I don’t know where to start when it comes to a show like this. I’m left speechless and unable to write my review. I guess I’ll start like this…. The band is amazing, and I hate to single out one member in such an incredible act, but Dustin Kensures lyrics reach my soul in such a way its indescribable.
Thrice has been around for many years, but their sound changed over night with their album “Beggars” back in 2007. This album is significant with me because I remember introducing weed to my 2 best friends during summer break after freshmen year of college, listening to this album in my moms basement high af. Flash back to a few years ago and I got the chance to photograph them after their long awaited (5 year hiatus album) “To Be Everywhere is to Be Nowhere”. Now 2 years later I’m photographing their latest tour with an album they just dropped last week. In other words, my jaw was fucking dropped.
Anyways, I won’t rant anymore about this band, because I know its not for everyone. I just suggest listening to their last 3 albums, smoke a bowl or have a drink of choice and maybe you’ll understand, and if you don’t, I don’t care, they’re awesome to me.’
