Kiko ToledoI’ve never seen a drummer smile so much, hell, I’ve never seen any musician smile as much as CC does while driving the locomotive rhythm behind Little Hurricane. As she kicked on her drum, she’d occasionally put a hand down on her belly to feel the mini human inside kicking along to the beat. Just a few feet away, Tone, the proud papa and husband to CC, sang throaty vintage blues to a room that sang right along with him and couldn’t stop shouting out their love for this rock and roll couple.
Little Hurricane makes me wistful for those sultry days of freedom in the summer heat. Maybe it’s the mix of Coke bottle slide guitar blues or their unique take as they cover classic songs from my youth like Johnny Cash and Bill Withers. I don’t know what it was but they were the perfect sound for this sweaty Seattle summer.
